Discovery Center Museum’s experienced science educators can train teachers on STEM and various science topics. Choose from our hands-on and interactive programs to enrich students’ educational curricula. Please contact Denise at [email protected] to discuss scheduling these multi-day workshops for your school or district. Individual teachers can register using the links below.

Each course supplies you with materials to keep use with your students!

 

Workshop: Simple Machines: STEM Challenges

Dates: July 8-10

Description: Have you ever wondered how things work? Discover how simple machines are used in our daily lives. Challenge students to design and create solutions to real-world problems by applying the science concepts of simple machines. Topics will include mini-skateboards with a skateboard park, working elevators, a fish Automata and an Archimedes screw. Get the materials, knowledge, and experience you need to bring hands-on STEM learning to your students in a Makerspace learning environment!

Location: Discovery Center Museum Makerspace Room
Times: Monday 8-1, Tuesday 8-12, Wednesday 8-12

Professional Development Hours (PDH): 13 Hours
Cost: $25
Graduate Credit available through the University of St. Francis - Registration for graduate credit needs to be done through the University of St. Francis* at the link below. You will still need to register with Discovery Center as well.

Workshop: Engineering and Design: STEM and Makerspace Challenges

Dates: July 15-17

Description: We are moving! Join us while we zip across the room, ski down the ramp, pick up objects with a robotic hand, float across the sky and the water! Meet us in the Makerspace to challenge students to create and design with the Engineering and Design Process, while developing and refining their communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills. Get the materials, knowledge, and experience you need to bring hands-on STEM learning to your students in a Makerspace learning environment!

Workshop: Life Science: Plant and Animal Adaptations and Survival

Dates: Aug 5-7

Description: Can you see me? I didn’t plant that flower there! Unwrap the secrets of plant and animal survival skills such as camouflage, beak adaptations, seed dispersal, and plant protection. Encourage your students to further their communication and critical thinking skills while you get the materials, knowledge, and experience you need to bring hands-on STEM learning to your students in a Makerspace learning environment!
